Ecuador
Important Information before travelling to Ecuador

Most visitors are allowed to stay up to 90 days, for longer stays you should contact the closest Ecuadorian embassy or consulate.

Electricity: 110V /60 cycles. Most battery chargers allow 110V to 220V. Europeans need an adapter for their electronic devices.

Language: The official language in Ecuador is Spanish. In the main touristic areas you will be able to find people that speak English, but in normal Ecuador system is very unlikely that you find someone that speaks English or German. In our trips you are accompanied by our Barefoot Pathfinders that will give you an idea of Ecuador from the inside.

Currency: American Dollar. We do use some small coins produced in Ecuador of 5, 10 and 50 cents

ATM: In Ecuador some ATMs give at the most $ 300 USD to $ 500 USD per day.

Banks: With Master Card, Visa, American Express or Diners debit or credit cards you can get cash in the bank. You just need your passport and the credit card to get up to $1000 USD per day. We recommend doing a bank transfer to pay your trip in advance so you don’t have to carry a lot of money with you.

Security: On our trips we do our best to guarantee your safety. All our guides are trained in first aid in remote areas and know exactly what to do in the case of accidents or emergencies. Our drivers are proactive and helpful. We have done the trips many times and know the areas and people where we are going to. Our cars and busses have insurance and always carry a basic first aid kit and a cell phone. You can count on the support of the Barefoot headquarter in Quito 24/7.

Insurance: You need to have travel insurance if you want to do a trip with us. We take the most of care of everything, but you never know. What we require is information about your insurance company and policy as well as emergency telephone numbers, so if there is an accident, loss or necessary medical treatment, the headquarter and Barefoot Pathfinders can act right away to help you surpass this incident the best way is possible we recommend World Nomads.

Recommendations: In Ecuador's big cities. like Quito and Guayaquil, delinquency has increased during the last years. In Quito we do not recommend to carry a lot of cash. Leave your credit card and passport in a safe place and just carry a copy with you. The Barefoot headquater is a safe point, where you can leave your passport, credit cards, laptop or other valuables, while you explore Ecuador in one of our tours.

Barefoot Headquarter: In our office in Quito you can use Internet for free and make free phone calls to USA and Canada, use Skype, store your luggage, wait for your flight, or simply have a cup of Guayusa, the energy drink from the Indians while you enjoy a breathtaking view of Quito. The Guayasamin museum and the beautiful Metropolitan Park are located very close to our office, so you can easily spend a relaxed day at our place.

Airport Embarkation Tax: Is levied on all passengers departing on international flights (to be paid in cash at the airport) USD 27.75 departing from Guayaquil and USD 40.80 departing from Quito, airport tax for domestic flights: USD 2. To see departures and arrivals go to Quito Airport, and check customs rules.

Contract with Barefoot Expeditions

01.Termination of the travel contract
Following the agreement of tour itinerary and costs, the client will be asked for a prepayment for the tour. On receipt of this payment, Barefoot Expeditions will send written confirmation, by email. This confirmation will serve as a legally binding contract for the services requested as per the agreed tour itinerary and details (unavoidable changes withstanding) once the balance tour payment has been received (see section 2). If the applicant registers for several travelers he is responsible for all of their contractual obligations as if his own. With the conclusion of the contract the customer agrees to the storage of his/her personal data for use by Barefoot Expeditions to facilitate the tour and its itinerary only. Your personal information will not be sold or misused for any commercial gain.

02.Payment
To confirm the agreed travel contract, a pre-payment of 50% per person of the value of the trip must be paid for all travels. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 30 days before departure of the tour for all Ecuador mainland tours and 90 days before departure for all travel to the Galapagos Islands.
If the client concludes his travel arrangements with Barefoot Expeditions less than 30 days before the departure date for the Ecuador mainland travel, or 90 days for the Galapagos Islands, the tour must be paid in full immediately.
If a client fails to pay for his/her tour in full before the agreed final payment dates (30 days before departure for mainland travel in Ecuador and 90 days before departure for Galapagos Island travel or mainland travel in South America less Ecuador) the client risks losing his/her tour. Equally, by failing to make the full payment before the due date, the client will lose his/her deposits for all travelers included in the reservation. If the tour fee has not been paid in full before the arranged travel start, Barefoot Expeditions will be released from its service obligations and may require the customer to pay any appropriate resignation costs.
