Barefoot Expeditions: Experience Freedom

                    Itinerary:Day 1: We pick you up early in the morning at your hotel in Quito for our day of mountain biking in the cloud forest from Nono to Tandayapa (approx. 28 km downhill and 4 km uphill, we will have a support car if needed). We switch to our mountain bikes and start the descend. We'll pass the quaint village of Nono. You can watch the vegetation change from páramo to cloud forest to low montane forest when you drive down the mountain until reaching the village of Tandayapa. If you keep one eye towards the sky, you can probably observe parrots, hummingbirds, toucans and other bird species. After lunch, we continue our way to our hotel in or near Mindo, where we spend the night. Just relax listening to the sounds of nature in the afternoon. (L) Day 2: After having breakfast close to the river, we start our day in Mindo visiting the "Mariposario", a butterfly farm close to the lodge. You have the chance to observe the whole process of metamorphosis of butterflies and even feed various species of butterflies on your hands! Several types of humming birds can be seen from very close around the farm as well. Now the adventurous part of the day starts: we do ziplining! The tour will take you on a journey of 3500 metres throughout the canopy - a series of zip lines connected by short walking trails. There are 13 cables of different lengths that range from 20 to 400 m - an amazing experience! You are accompanied by experienced guides using the best equipment to offer you safety and pure adrenaline during the canopy tour. We continue our way to a cable car of 530 metres lengths, which takes us 70 m above the cloud forest to the starting point of the waterfalls path. After a 30 minute trek we reach the first of 5 beautiful waterfalls in the middle of the cloud forest, where you can take a refreshing bath. Night in cloud forest lodge in Mindo. (B) Day 3: In the morning we leave the lodge and drive via Santo Domingo, close to where we start our rafting trip (class III - approx. 3 hours) on the Toachi/Blanco rivers (in case you choose the Mulaute river, class II, we head towards Los Bancos). On the river you can not only enjoy exciting rapids and waves, but also a nice view on the scenic landscape along the river. Lunch will be prepared for you on the shore of the river. After lunch, wee head back to Quito (approx. 3 hours) and drop you off at your hotel in the evening :-) (B, L) (The 2-day tour starts on day 2 with pick up from hotel in Quito.)
