Biking Cloud Forest Quito-Nono-Tandayapa

Biking cloud forestSeason: Year round
Area: North western cloud forest.  

Beautiful trip to see the quick change of the vegetation from the highlands to the cloud forest. Most of the trip is a continuous downhill on the old road that connects Quito with the cloud forest. Part of the ride is paved, but most of it is sand and small rocks. Not difficult, it is fun for experienced bikers or for families with children (12 and up)

Cotopaxi Climbing

coto climbThe ascent departs from the “Jose Rivas” refuge at 4,800m and climbs through a mixture of volcanic, snow and glacier to the summit(5,897mosl). The climb is not classified as technical but a specialized climbing guide is needed and does not require previous experience but acclimatization and good physical condition is needed.

Quijos river (Class IV-IV+)

Quijos river rafting

Quijos River is a solid class IV river located in the area of El Chaco in the eastern Andes slopes born from the Antisana glacier volcano.  Because of the amazing scenery and challenging rapids is  a world class river among the best of the world, the World Rafting Championships on 2005 was held in this river, the season is from October to March when the river level  is perfect to hit some rapids like “El Toro” one of the most challenging rapid.

Cotopaxi Mountain Biking

Area: Cotopaxi National Park.  

  • Interesting activity in the altitude.

  • It is a ride along a sandy (sometimes it is covered with snow) car road from 4600m of altitude to 4000 in a big valley.

Quilotoa Crater/lake 1 day

QuilotoaThe Quilotoa is a Volcano crater that remains active with a beautiful lake inside the crater, at 3.800 mosl surrounded by local indigenes communities. On the drive to the Quilotoa we will pass by many indigenous towns and farmlands like Saquisili that has an Indian market on Thursdays only and Pujili on Sundays, once in the crater follows a steep hike down to the lake shore.

  • It is an intense hike and climb to a high mountain. 
  • You should be in very good shape and have some acclimatization first.
  • You climb from 3900 to 5125 m in around 6-7 hours. 
  • You should feel comfortable climbing in steep hills using hands and feet.
