HIking
Hike around Cuicocha lake

Season: Year round
Area: Imbabura Northern Ecuador.  

  • Beautiful hike around a volcanic lake with two islands in the middle. 
  • It is a 5-6 hours hike at 3500 meters of altitude.
  • Great views of the lake, the farmlands and the mount Cotacachi. 
  • Good for kids and adults (12 and up)


ITINERARY:

  
07h00    Pick up from hotel.  Drive to Cotacachi
09h00    Arrive to the lake shore.  Safety talk.
09h30    Hiking starts!!
12h00    Lunch
12h30    Downhill continues
14h00    Hike finishes.  Drive back to Quito
17h00    Arrive to Quito.  Drop off in hotel

 
Hike and climb the Iliniza norte (5125 m)

Season: Year round
Area: Ilinizas.  

  • It is an intense hike and climb to a high mountain. 
  • You should be in very good shape and have some acclimatization first.
  • You climb from 3900 to 5125m in around 6-7 hours. 
  • You should feel comfortable climbing in steep hills using hands and feet.


ITINERARY:

  
06h00    Pick up from hotel.  Drive to Ilinizas ecological reserve.
09h00    Arrive to the parking lot at 3900 m of altitude.  Safety talk.
09h30    Hiking starts!!
11h30    Lunch in the refuge.
12h00    Climbing towards the summit begins.
14h00    Summit.  Begin the hike down
17h00    Arrive to parking lot.  Drive back to Quito
19h00    Arrive to Quito.  Drop off in hotel

    • Helmet and harness

What should you bring?

  • Small camera
  • Copy of your passport
  • Comfortable hiking shoes
  • Quick drying shorts and shirts
  • Warm clothes
  • Dry clothes to change after the hike in case of rain
  • Cash for extra expenses or tips.
